An 88-story landmark skyscraper in shanghai. It contains offices and the Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel. Until 2007 it was the tallest building in the China, the fifth tallest in the world by roof height and the seventh tallest by pinnacle height.

A wall of sake barrels stand at the entrance to Meiji Shrine. It is used in many Shinto ceremonies. Barrels of sake are donated to the shrine.

Change Guards at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Athens, Greece

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is permanently guarded by Evzones, members of the presidential guard in traditional attire, foustanella.

The foustanella was worn by the Greek revolutionaries who fought the independence war against the Turkish between 1821 and 1830. It consists of a white skirt with 400 pleats (the number of years of Turkish rule), white shirts with long sleeves, red pointed shoes with large pompons and an embroidered vest.

The change of the guards, on the hour, looks like a very slow dance where the soldiers kick their feet on the ground and in the air. On Sunday at 11 o'clock, the ceremony is more elaborate than the weekday event and features a marching band and an abundance of guards.

Saint Basil's Cathedral (or Pokrovsky Cathedral), Red Square, Moscow

St. Basil's marks the geometric center of Moscow. It was erected on Czar Ivan the Terrible's order in 1555-1561 to commemorate the taking of Kazan and the conquest of the Astrakhan Khanate. It has been the hub of the city's growth since the 14th century and was the city's tallest building until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600.

Vietnam Women's Memorial

The Vietnam Women's Memorial is a memorial dedicated to the women of the United States who served in the Vietnam War. It depicts three uniformed women with a wounded soldier. The woman looking up is named Hope, the woman praying is named Faith (not seen in this angle) and the woman tending to a wounded soldier is named Charity. It is part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and is located on National Mall in Washington DC.

Temple of Olympian Zeus, Athens, Greece

The Temple of Olympian Zeus is a colossal ruined temple in the centre of the Greek capital Athens that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Atheniantyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman periods it was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.

The temple's glory was short-lived, as it fell into disuse after being pillaged in a barbarian invasion in the 3rd century AD. It was probably never repaired and was reduced to ruins thereafter. In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, the temple was extensively quarried for building materials to supply building projects elsewhere in the city. Despite this, substantial remains remain visible today and it continues to be a major tourist attraction.

Washington Monument

When the monument was under construction in 1854, the Washington National Monument Society ran out of money and the project ground to a halt. Twenty-five years later, the U.S. Government took over and completed the upper two-thirds of the structure by 1884 using marble from a different quarry. The two sections closely resembled each other at first, but time, wind, rain, and erosion have caused the marble sections to weather differently, thereby producing the difference in color. A third type of marble is also visible at the dividing line between the two main phases of construction.
